After a small fire in 1998, the authorities decided to close the theatre in order to study the viability of its restoration. A team of professionals and technicians directed by the Architects Alvaro Farina and Carlos Pascual started to work in the research and study of the areas with high risk and danger of collapse. Finally, the restoration process was continued by Architect Eneida De León untill the re-inauguration on the 25th August, 2004.
